Chapter 27

Sitting on the sofa, Margot gently asked Kaylee about her future plans,

“Kaylee, you’ve been back for half a month now. Have you thought about what you’d like to do moving forward?”

Kaylee was slightly taken aback.

“Mom, what do you mean exactly?”

Was this a subtle way of pushing her toward marriage? Did she want to help her find a boyfriend? Or maybe she was trying to set her up with Steven, given their childhood betrothal.

Margot chuckled warmly. “You don’t need to be so nervous. I’m asking about your career plans. Do you have any ideas, or do you plan to try freelancing like some others?”

“You’ve already said you’re not considering relationships for now, and we respect that–we won’t interfere.”

Relieved, Kaylee exhaled deeply.

“I haven’t decided yet. I might try something in new media–it’s more aligned with what I studied in university.”

Margot nodded thoughtfully and then asked, “Have you ever thought about joining the family business? Managing it alongside your brother?”

“Uh…”

Kaylee was caught off guard. She stared at her mother in disbelief, instinctively shaking her head.

“I’ve never studied anything like that. How could I take on such a responsibility? Arthur is far more suited for it.”

Her life up to now had been ordinary–focused on studying and schoolwork. Managing a business seemed completely beyond her abilities, If she took over, it would surely lead to disaster. Seeing her hesitation, Margot smiled softly, radiating the poise of a wealthy matriarch.

“Silly child, we have plenty of businesses. You don’t need to worry about losing money”

“Besides, we wouldn’t expect you to take over immediately. We’d arrange for you to intern at the company first, so you can gain experience. If any problems arise, we’ll be here to guide you.”

“Only when you’ve reached a certain level of competence would we entrust you with running a company.”

Margot’s gentle encouragement made Kaylee hesitate.

Margot continued, “We’ve been discussing this for a while–your father, your brother, and L We all feel it’s time for you to gain some experience.”

“In the future, even when we’re no longer around, you’ll have several businesses under your name to support you, ensuring you’ll never lack for anything.”

Kaylee froze, startled by her mother’s words, and quickly turned to look at her.

“Mom, why would you say that? You’ll live a long, healthy life.”

She had just lost her adoptive parents and finally found her biological family–a loving home. The thought of anything happening to her parents was unbearable. Still, as she considered it, Kaylee realized she had already graduated from university.

While her family was wealthy, she couldn’t stay idle at home forever. It was time to step into the working world. Besides, in today’s society, many people dreamed of starting their own businesses but lacked the capital. She was fortunate enough to have this opportunity–how could she not seize it?

Looking at her mother, Kaylee said, “Mom, I’ll agree to intern at the company.

Margot nodded, clearly pleased.

“Good. Your major was in Internet and New Media, wasn’t it? We were thinking of having you learn from Steven for a while. He’s currently expanding into the new media industry.”

“But you’ll go through a proper interview process–no special treatment,” she teased.

Kaylee was surprised to hear it wouldn’t be directly at one of her family’s companies.

Still, she didn’t object. “Alright, I’ll follow whatever you and Dad arrange.”

After all, it was just an internship–it didn’t matter where it was. The next day, Kaylee went to Steven’s media company for an interview, which went smoothly. She was set to start the following Monday.

Everything went well, and on Monday morning, she arrived at work as scheduled. Not wanting to draw attention to her identity, she had the driver drop her off a street away from the company and walked the rest of the way.

However, as she approached the building, she ran into Vincent again. Kaylee sighed, her brows furrowing in exasperation. Vincent blocked her path, his gaze sincere.

“Kaylee, if you want to work, I can give you a small company to run. Whatever you want, I can provide it.”

“Please don’t break up with me, and don’t be with Steven.”
