He also clenched his fists and seriously said to me, “You have not only the Carter family behind you, but also me. If he ever hurts you, I definitely won’t let him off easy!”

I laughed and said he was overthinking. From childhood to adulthood, I had always believed in my own judgment. I was sure Derek wouldn’t let me down.

Looking back now, all the advice everyone gave me was true. It was just that I was blinded by love at the time and didn’t care about anything else.

After marriage, even though I went along with everything he said, he would still find fault with various things, saying I didn’t know how to do housework, that my temper was a bit bad, that I wasn’t as virtuous as his friends‘ wives.

At that time, I was completely focused on Derek, and I would even change my habits for him.

He liked coming home to see me every day, so I tried to stay at home to keep him company as much as possible. I would even study recipes to cook different dishes for him.

My best friend Rachel said I had changed so much after marriage that I didn’t seem like myself anymore. The young lady who loved shopping and taking photos the most was now willing to change for a man.

Derek’s parents were very satisfied with me. At every family gathering, his relatives would praise me for being beautiful and kind–hearted.

The only one who could find fault with me was probably Derek.

I always thought it was because I wasn’t doing well enough, but now I realize he never had love in his eyes for me. How could he ever think I was good?

Just like that, without anyone asking for my opinion, Chloe was settled into my home.

In the evening, Chloe personally came to knock on my door to call me for dinner. After I refused her three times, she started crying pitifully outside the door.

Her cries grew louder and louder, attracting Derek. She then said, “Lily seems to have a big problem with me. I called her for dinner, but she even scolded me,”

I opened the door with an annoyed expression and looked at Chloe, who was crying with a pitiful face.

Derek rushed over, full of concern, holding her arm to comfort her, “Don’t cry, leave it to me.”

Chloe then took out a hairpin from her pocket and handed it to me, saying, “Lily, this is handmade by me. Please accept it. Can we get along well in the future?”

Before she finished speaking, I immediately interrupted, “Don’t dream. Who are you putting on this act for?”

Hearing this, Chloe sadly burrowed Into Derek’s arms.

Derek angrily rushed over and slapped me.

“Lily, I’ve already warned you. Chloe is pregnant and needs to maintain a stable mood.”
