“The conversation isn’t over yet. Where are you going?”

I couldn’t help but tear up again. Alex loosened his grip and said to me in a panic, “Don’t cry. I’m sorry, my tone wasn’t good just now. I apologize to you.”

Before he finished speaking, two lines of hot tears had already rolled down my cheeks.

Alex wiped away the tears from the corners of my eyes in a fluster and gently stroked my hair, saying, “Why don’t you hit me? You know I’m most afraid of you crying.”

When I was angry as a child, Alex would always gently stroke my hair to comfort me like this.

I didn’t expect that now, as the decisive CEO of Shen Corp, he would still comfort me like he did when we were young.

After all, Alex and I had a very good relationship when we were young.

He was only three months older than me, but his mindset was much more mature.

When we were young, he would tell all the little friends around me that I was his sister and that no one was allowed to bully me.

But I bullied him quite a bit.

I would even snatch away the gifts he received on his birthday if I liked them.

Once, he really didn’t want to give me a limited edition figurine, and we even had a fight.

Of course, he didn’t hurt me, but I scratched the corner of his eye.

That time, I cried and apologized to him with red eyes. Even though he was the one who was injured and bandaged, in the end, he comforted me for half a day.

After that, he would go along with everything I said. I thought he was afraid I would hurt him again.

Until my 18th birthday, he gave me a whole car full of gifts and said an ambiguous sentence to me: “Actually, I don’t just see you as a sister.”

At that time, I didn’t understand the true meaning of his words. I even laughed at him, a big boy, for sending a thousand paper cranes.

That day, Alex stayed for dinner at my house, and we talked about a lot of things.

Until Derek called me.

On the other end of the phone, Derek angrily questioned, “Lily, where did you go to buy bird’s nest? Don’t you know there’s a pregnant woman waiting for you at home?”

My parents and Alex could hear Derek’s tone through the speaker. Alex immediately rushed over and snatched my phone, hanging up the call.

Alex said angrily, “He really doesn’t know his place!”

That night, I didn’t go home. Derek called my phone non–stop, but I ignored all the calls.

I didn’t return home until nearly noon the next day. Derek sat in the living room with a gloomy face, glaring at me without saying a word.

Mrs. Wilson quickly pulled me into the room and said, “Lily, you’re finally back. You don’t know, yesterday when you didn’t come back all night, that woman made a fuss about wanting to eat bird’s nest, causing everyone to stay up until late at night.”

“That woman woke up early in the morning and was unhappy with everyone. I followed your instructions and prepared breakfast as usual, but she criticized me, asking if I was too old to show my good cooking skills.”

“If you hadn’t given me a heads up in advance, I would have quit right then and there today.”

I had called Mrs. Wilson after having dinner at home and instructed her to carry on as usual and endure for a few more days.

As the saying goes, if you want them to perish, let them be arrogant first.
