Chapter 8X

You really think you can steal what’s mine just because you wear my face?” My sister’s eyes were wild with hatred. “Since you don’t know shame, let me help you tear it off”

With that, she swung the knife–and searing pain followed as the blade slashed across my cheek.!!

Warm blood gushed down my face. I screamed, the torment unbearable. But before I could let out more than a single cry, my mother stormed over in a fury. She clamped tape over my mouth, then slapped me viciously, over and over.“!

“I should’ve known you were rotten!” she snarled. “You even tried to seduce your own sister’s man!”

My father’s boot landed hard against my side, and I doubled over with a muffled cry.

“We finally made it to the good life, and you want to drag us back down? So jealous of your sister you’d destroy everything?“

“If I’d known you’d grow into something this disgusting, we would’ve smothered you in your crib!“}]

Their rage poured out in waves–slaps, kicks, fists. My skin burned with each strike. Slap marks and boot prints bloomed across my body like grotesque flowers. I collapsed to the ground, battered and broken, my vision blurring from pain.§

But my sister wasn’t finished.N

She stepped closer, her face twisted with revulsion.

“You want to be Mrs. Jacobson?” she hissed. “Then let me give you a taste of her death.“>

Without another word, she drove the knife into my thigh.

Pain exploded through me. I convulsed, my body trembling violently as blood soaked through my clothes. My breath came in gasps. Cold sweat clung to my skin.

I looked up at her, and in that moment, I saw it–unfiltered malice, raw and deadly. I knew then: I was going to die in her hands again.

Why?&

Why, after everything I’d done to change my fate–after all the careful choices and cautious steps–had I still ended up here?§

Was my death in her hands inevitable, no matter the life?}

Tears stung my eyes, not just from the pain, but from despair.

She raised the blade again, this time aiming for my heart.

“You dared dream of stealing my place?” she snarled. “Then go to hell!“}

The knife plunged toward me-

CRASH!!

The door flew open with a deafening bang.

A cold, sharp voice sliced through the air:

Mary Brown. You really must be tired of living.”

My sister froze.}

She turned slowly, disbelief plastered on her face.

There, standing at the threshold, was Wallace.§

Behind him were several bodyguards, each one exuding quiet menace. But it was Wallace’s expression that made the blood drain from her face–ice–cold, murderous, and utterly unmerciful.

He had called her real name.

The room fell into stunned silence.

My parents stiffened like statues, too terrified to move. My sister’s legs buckled slightly under her. She looked ready to collapse.

He knew.

He knew who she really was.

Still, she clung to the last thread of her act. With trembling hands, she dropped the knife and stumbled toward him, tears welling in her eyes.

“Wallace… what are you saying?” she asked, voice quivering. “I’m your wife–Veronica!“}

Then, as if realizing her panic might betray her, she rushed to explain, her words tumbling out in breathless urgency.

“You–You saw the knife and got the wrong idea, didn’t you?” she whimpered. “She… she tried to seduce you! I lost control. I was just trying to protect what’s mine. That’s all!“}

The same woman who had moments ago tried to carve me open now looked like a fragile flower, shivering with regret.

My father quickly stepped in, eager to shield her.

“Mr. Jacobson, my daughter–she’s always been vain. Ever since she was young, she chased status and wealth.“}

“When she realized she looked a little like your wife, she got foolish ideas in her head. Thankfully, Mrs. Jacobson realized in time and acted. Please, don’t blame her. She only did it to protect you!“>

My mother nodded fervently beside him. “Yes, Mr. Jacobson. It’s all because she loves you too much. That’s why she… lost control.”
