Chapter 12

Sweeping Evelyn into his arms, Liam carried his bride through a shower of rice and cheers as they exited the church. With his military–straight posture and barely contained smile, he looked every bit the victorious hero–though his stoic expression never wavered.

The Caldwells exchanged surprised glances. This restrained yet radiant version of Liam defied all their expectations. Maybe their daughter’s unconventional choice was inspired after all.

Inside the vintage Rolls–Royce hired for the occasion, the newlyweds sat enveloped in that peculiar post–ceremony silence–part exhaustion, part awe at the enormity of the step they’d just taken.

Neither Liam nor Evelyn seemed to know what to say.

“You…” They spoke at the same time, then stopped. Seeing the faint tension in Liam’s expression, Evelyn suddenly relaxed, a soft laugh escaping her.

“You go first,” she said, her voice warm with amusement.

“Are you hungry? I prepared some food for you. Today will be… tiring.” Liam’s gaze lingered on his bride’s slender frame, concern flickering in his eyes.

“Ah, thank you,” Evelyn replied out of habit.

“Don’t be so formal with me.” Liam frowned slightly at her polite response.

“Hmm?” Now Evelyn was genuinely curious about this husband of hers.

He wasn’t at all like the rumors had painted him.

And those faintly reddened ears of his–she could tell Liam harbored no resentment towards this arranged marriage.

Upon arriving at the reception venue, Evelyn was escorted to the bridal suite to change into her show–stopping ceremony gown–the

sartorial centerpiece of the entire wedding.

A masterpiece of intricate craftsmanship, the dress was nothing short of a work of art–every stitch, every embellishment a testament

to the artisan’s skill and dedication.

The moment Evelyn laid eyes on it, she was captivated.

Gasps of admiration erupted from the makeup artists and attendants trailing behind her. “It’s breathtaking!”

When Evelyn finally emerged from the dressing room, the crowd was struck speechless–first by the gown’s opulence, then by the

wornan wearing it.

The makeup artist, studying Evelyn’s flawless complexion, sighed in defeat. No amount of cosmetics could enhance such perfection. Still, she poured her utmost effort into highlighting what nature had already sculpted to divine standards.

“Now, please welcome the bride!” As the officiant’s voice rang out, the grand doors of the banquet hall swung open.

Every guest turned, their attention instantly seized by Evelyn as she entered on her father’s arm.

Clad in her resplendent gown, she moved with effortless grace–like a fairy stepping straight out of a dream.

Liam felt as though Cupid’s arrow had pierced him straight through the heart.

Everything was unfolding with surreal smoothness.

Taking Evelyn’s hand from her father, he was so nervous he nearly stumbled over his own feet.

Mr. Caldwell, observing his son–in–law’s demeanor, felt another wave of reassurance. His daughter had chosen well.

Returning to his seat beside Mrs. Caldwell, he gave her hand a gentle squeeze. They exchanged a glance–no words needed.

“Do you, Liam Sinclair, take Evelyn Caldwell to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”

Liam’s eyes locked onto Evelyn’s as he answered, firm and resolute, “I do.”

The fire in his eyes stole Evelyn’s breath. There was no mistaking it now—what shone in his expression could only be love.

But how? When had this affection taken root? Lost in thought, she barely registered the officiant’s next words—until Liam’s grip on her

hand tightened anxiously.

“And Evelyn Caldwell,” the officiant prompted, “do you pledge these same vows to Liam?”

Snapping back to the present, Evelyn curled her fingers reassuringly around his. “I do.”

“You may now kiss the bride.”

With infinite tenderness, Liam pressed a solemn kiss to Evelyn’s forehead.
