“How could they do that to you?” 

Her gaze dropped to the IV line in my wrist.

I didn’t answer. 

She explained that Sloane, by inducing a minor to falsely report a concussion, had already triggered a safety incident at the healing center. If I agreed, she wd 16:03

I nodded my consent.

She tucked away her clipboard, then asked, “When you found out about the betrayal, didn’t you expose them?” 

“I did.” 

My thoughts went back six years. 

After losing the baby, I could barely function, but I didn’t take it lying down.

I checked Grant’s old devices and found the private emails between him and Sloane-messages that detailed how they used pack patrol meetings and charity projects as cover to be together. 

I sent the evidence to the regional public liaison office where Sloane worked. I also sent it to the representatives of packs allied with Ironwood. 

She lost her job soon after.
