As/acting commander, getting off on the wrong foot with the local troops on their very first day would be a disgrace to Skyward Martial Academy.
For a moment, Quinn had no idea what to do.
Zachery noticed her hesitation and smiled as he stepped forward again, reaching out to pull her along
Skyler couldn’t stand by and watch anymore. He pulled out his camera, pointed it straight at Zachery, and started snapping pictures.
Zachery jumped and quickly tried to stop him. “What are you taking pictures of?”
Skyler smiled. “Mr. Silva, I’m Skyler from the public relations department at Skyward Martial Academy. We didn’t come here just to provide reinforcements. We also want to learn from Northville’s outstanding military discipline and bring those lessons back to our academy so we can inspire our fellow students to work harder, grow stronger, and one day serve our country.
“You were kind enough to think of how exhausted we must be after the journey and even offered to welcome us with a dinner the moment we arrived. With such warm hospitality from the military, of course I had to capture it all.”
Zachery’s expression changed. He immediately lowered the hand he had been reaching toward Quinn.
The war was raging. The entire country was preparing for battle and joining forces to defend against the beast tide. Anything involving military conduct was extremely sensitive.
If someone exposed the way he’d just behaved, there wasn’t a soul alive who could save him.
Conrad quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “We appreciate your kindness, but we ran into an ambush by a beast tide on our way here, and quite a few of our students were injured. We can skip the welcome dinner. Please just arrange a place for us to rest so we can treat our injuries.”
Zachery forced a smile. “I didn’t think that through. I’ll take you to the rest area right away.”
With that, the people behind Zachery immediately stepped forward and led the students toward the camp behind the supply station.
The students had come here with dreams of killing monsters and serving their country. They never expected to be treated like this, and naturally, many of them were unhappy.
The only exception was Glen, who stood there with his eyes shining, completely motionless.
Skyler patted him on the shoulder. “Glen, what’s wrong?”
Glen snapped back to reality and grinned. “So this is a real military camp? I’ve dreamed about being here for years. Today, my dream finally came true!”
Skyler rolled his eyes. What kind of military camp is this? It’s nothing more than a place where a bunch of undisciplined soldiers coasted along on military achievements to make themselves look good!

Thinking about the lecherous, carefree look on Zachery’s face, Skyler knew the days ahead were going to
anything but boring.
“Skyler, get some rest. I’m going to look around the camp!” Glen didn’t notice Skyler’s irritation. He rushed excitedly into the supply station.
Late that night, in a quiet corner of the camp.
Smack!
The sharp sound of a slap echoed through the darkness.
Seamus turned his head. The bright red handprint on his cheek burned like a branding iron, searing itself into his pride.
“You useless fool! What were you panicking about earlier? Do you have any idea what a perfect chance that was to win people over? You wasted it because you were incompetent!”
Abdiel’s hoarse voice drifted through the darkness, and Seamus felt a chill run down his spine. His body began to tremble involuntarily.
“Please, calm down. It was my first time on a battlefield. I didn’t have much experience. Please forgive me!”
Abdiel snorted. “If it weren’t for the bigger plan. I’d beat you senseless right now, you idiot!”
Seamus clenched his teeth and forced a sycophantic smile. “So what do we do now?”
Abdiel turned toward the area where Skyward Martial Academy was stationed. “Looks like you’ve got lucky and met someone important. Get close to Zachery. I don’t care what method you use. I don’t care how you do it. Just make sure you get on his good side. We need his cooperation for the next part of the plan.”
“Yes, Sir. I’ll go right away.”
Early the next morning, Skyler woke up before dawn.
There was something different about the air on a battlefield. It brought back memories of what the battlefield in the western warzone command had felt like.
He got out of bed, quietly slipped out of the tent, and made his way toward the woods beside the camp.
An abandoned storage shed in the woods hadn’t been used in years. Quinn, Gordon, and several others had already been waiting there for quite some time.
Skyler asked, “How’s the situation?”
Toby’s expression darkened as he lowered his voice and cursed. “I looked into it through my family’s intelligence network last night. Zachery is nothing but a disgrace to the military. He’s been abusing his position for years, all because his brother-in-law is a high-ranking officer in the Western Warzone Command. He’s gotten away with all kinds of misconduct because of that connection.”

Glen continued, “I looked around the supply point last night. The defenses here are a complete mess, even
orse than the training camps at our academy. If a beast tide attacked a place this vulnerable, the whole cap would be overrun in an instant.”
Gordon angrily crushed the empty soda can in his hand. “I really don’t know what the northern warzone command is thinking. How could they put a parasite like Zachery in charge of such an important place”.
Skyler frowned. “Before we left, I asked Ms. Hopkins about the situation here. Didn’t she say the Mistcloud Mountain supply station had strict military discipline? How did it end up like this?”
Quinn sighed. “The discipline here really was strict at first. But when the beast tide began breaking through the borders, the main forces of the military district were busy fighting the beasts and neglected the Mistcloud Mountain supply station. One wave of demonic beasts slipped around the defensive line. trying to cut off the supply route to Mistcloud Mountain.
“The garrison commander immediately led his troops out to intercept them. They fought the beast tide o a bloody standstill five miles west of here, and both sides suffered heavy losses. Zachery, on the other hand, was too cowardly to risk his life and stayed behind in the camp. That’s why he survived. Once the northern warzone command figured out the demonic beasts’ movements, they sent in reinforcements and secured the entire supply route.
“In the end, that coward Zachery somehow became the highest-ranking commander of the Mistcloud Mountain supply station. With a large force protecting him, he simply hid out here and settled into a comfortable life.”
