Chapter 236 A Camp on the Brink

Chapter 236 A Camp on the Brink

Skyler rubbed his temples, his head aching. “What an idiot!”

Quinn and the others’ expressions turned grim..

“Skyler, what should we do now?”

10 Free Catha

Skyler rubbed his face, a sharp light flashing in his eyes. “If Zachery isn’t willing to do it, then we’ll do it ourselves. Once this war is over, I’ll make sure he pays for it!”

Once they had made up their minds, Quinn and the others immediately called together all the students from Skyward Martial Academy and began rebuilding the camp’s defenses.

The students who had come to reinforce Northville were all elite cadets with a solid grasp of military theory.

With Skyler, a veteran with plenty of combat experience, guiding them from the side, they managed to put together some decent defensive work. In just one day, the camp, which had been riddled with weak points, was completely transformed.

People were stationed in the watchtowers that had previously stood empty, with three people on each shift and round-the-clock patrols.

Countless hidden lookout posts were also set up in the woods and open land around the camp, so any unusual movement could be reported immediately.

The young students were already fired up and eager to prove themselves. They threw themselves into patrol duty without complaint, and before long, the entire camp had begun to look almost impregnable.

From the high platform, Quinn looked out over the lively camp, her heart filled with pride.

“The basic defenses are in place. What do you think, Skyler?”

Skyler rested both hands on the top of the wall and narrowed his eyes as he stared across the open wilderness.

“The Mistcloud Mountain camp is an important supply route for the battlefield ahead. If I were one of the demonic beasts, I’d never leave this place alone. I have a feeling they’ll organize another attack.”

Gordon frowned. “It can’t be that bad, can it? After the last attack, the northern warzone command stationed a lot of troops along this route to keep it secure.”

Skyler said, “It’s better to be safe than sorry. This is war. A single careless mistake can lead to everything falling apart. Never underestimate how cunning monsters can be, or we’ll pay a terrible price!”

“Skyler, just tell us what needs to be done,” Quinn said firmly.

After yesterday’s battle, Quinn had finally witnessed just how powerful Skyler was. She had begun to instinctively look to him for direction.

Skyler pointed toward the communications station in the distance. “In a sense, war is a battle between

formation and information. We need control of this camp’s communications so we can keep track of the bigger picture.”

Everyone exchanged uneasy looks.

Zachery had mostly ignored Quinn and the others as they rebuilt the camp’s defenses, staying out of their way. But when it came to the communications station, he wouldn’t budge. He refused to let any of the students go anywhere near it.

They were extremely unhappy with Zachery, but this was still his camp. If he refused to hand over the

L communications station, Quinn and the others couldn’t simply take it by force.

Skyler nodded knowingly. The camp belonged to Zachery, and even if Skyler and the others rebuilt, the defenses, the higher-ups would see it and naturally credit Zachery for their work.

The communications station, however, was the camp’s only direct line to the military. If Zachery lost control of it and someone reported the camp’s true condition to the higher-ups, he would be finished.

Skyler gave a cold smile. “Come on. Let’s talk to Zachery. I refuse to believe I can’t handle one small communications station!”

At the camp headquarters.

Zachery and several others were sitting around drinking and playing drinking games. His face was bright red, and his military jacket hung carelessly over his shoulders. He didn’t look like a soldier in the slightest.

He looked more like a lowlife hanging around a bar.

Seamus was sitting beside Zachery, the two of them with their arms around each other’s shoulders. They already looked like old friends.

“Mr. Silva, I felt like we’d hit it off the moment I saw you. So screw the formalities-I’m calling you Zach. Hope you don’t mind.”

Zachery belched from the alcohol and slapped Seamus hard on the shoulder. “You’re too modest, Seamus. You’re a big shot in the western warzone command. Even the Wrights treat you like an honored guest. I’m the one who should be worried that I’m not good enough to call you my friend.”

Seamus laughed loudly. “Come on, Zach. No more talking. Let’s drink!”

The two exchanged a knowing look, clinked their glasses, and tipped their heads back to drain them.

Seamus picked up the bottle and filled Zachery’s glass again. Then his tone suddenly turned apologetic. “Zach, there’s something else I need to apologize for. My brother went too far yesterday. He really messed things up for you.”

Zachery froze. He immediately realized that the man who had taken pictures of him with a camera the night before looked remarkably similar to Seamus. His expression darkened.

“That kid is your brother?”

Seamus quickly said, “Zach, don’t be angry. I’m not on his side. Skyler may be my older brother, but he’s ogant, disloyal, and completely unfilial. He even cut ties with our parents. If we weren’t still related by blood, I’d have dealt with him myself a long time ago.”

Zachery’s expression softened a little. He filled Seamus’s glass as well. “That kid looks like a stubborn troublemaker. Since you don’t want to deal with him yourself, why don’t you let me help you?

“That would be great!” Seamus laughed and clinked his glass against Zachery’s again.

Just then, the headquarters door was suddenly kicked open, and Skyler stormed into the room with Quinn and the others.

Conrad followed behind them, looking as though he wanted to stop them, but there was no way he could hold back this crowd.

“Well, look at you guys. Having a little party?”

The moment he entered the room, Skyler greeted them with a loud laugh, his voice dripping with

sarcasm.

Zachery frowned in irritation. “This is the camp headquarters. It’s a restricted military area. Breaking in like this is a serious violation of military regulations! But since this is your first offense, I’ll let it slide. Now get out. If you do this again, you’ll face military punishment!”
