Chapter 7 A Casual Pointer
Teagan was in a terrible mood.
She had already made plans with her best friend to spend the day training at the martial training hall.
But for some reason, Dominic, who usually doted on her, had insisted that she personally drive Skyler to school.
He had been unusually firm about it, leaving her no room to refuse.
She simply couldn’t understand it. Her father had served in the military for over 20 years, earned countless military merits, and was now the commandant of Riverspire Garrison. So why was he so ridiculously fond of a loser like Skyler?
Skyler, however, paid no attention to her attitude. His eyes casually swept over her. “Fourth stage of the Innate Realm? Not bad.”
Teagan froze for a moment, then she became even more annoyed.
Who does Skyler think he is? What gives him the right to evaluate me?
Besides, she had reached the fourth stage of the Innate Realm at only 20. Even among everyone her age in Riverspire, she was unquestionably considered a genius.
Yet Skyler’s only comment was, “Not bad.”
Just as Teagan was about to snap, Skyler continued, “But you’ve suffered a lower back injury. Your strength can’t flow through your body as one unified force. I’d recommend putting your training on hold for now and letting your back fully recover first.”
Teagan blinked. She had injured her lower back a month ago, and it was mostly healed. She never expected Skyler had somehow noticed it.
“Hmm?” Skyler suddenly looked toward her left hand with a hint of surprise. “You have an innate energy point in your left palm. I suggest you focus on training your left hand from now on.
“Store your internal energy inside that energy point and strike with your left hand. Your strength should increase by at least twice.”
Teagan scoffed. “Please. Who do you think you are? Pretending to be some martial arts expert in front of me? I’m not even left-handed. Why would I fight with my left hand?”
An innate energy point? She didn’t even know about it. Even Dominic had never discovered it.
Yet Skyler noticed it with one casual glance?
She had been surprised earlier when he accurately identified her back injury. Now, she was convinced her father must have told him about it beforehand.
“Believe it or not, it’s up to you,” Skyler said flatly.
He had only offered Teagan a few pointers for Dominic’s sake. Whether she believed him or not wasn’t his concern.
“Let’s go to school.” Skyler stood up and walked out of the room.
Teagan became even more irritated when she saw him always acting so calm and indifferent.
But he had already gone downstairs, so she could only hurry after him.
Half an hour later, a bright red supercar pulled up outside Riverspire High, immediately attracting plenty of attention.
“We’re here. Get out,” Teagan said expressionlessly as she opened the door.
Skyler couldn’t be bothered arguing with her and simply got out.
Teagan snorted. Just as she was about to drive away, a black sedan approached in the distance.
More than a dozen escort vehicles surrounded it, making for an extremely impressive convoy.
“Huh? Isn’t that Mr. Yount’s car? Could Seamus be inside?” Teagan suddenly became interested.
Sure enough, once the vehicles stopped, three people stepped out.
They were Connor, Alice, and Seamus.
“So that’s Seamus,” Teagan murmured. “It’s only been three years, but he’s grown into quite an impressive young man.”
In reality, Skyler and Seamus resembled each other quite a bit. Otherwise, Skyler could never have taken Seamus’s place in the military so easily.
But in Teagan’s eyes, Seamus looked every bit the outstanding young hero. As for Skyler? The more she looked at him, the less she liked him.
She quickly got out of the car and walked over. “Hello, Mr. Yount, Mrs. Yount. And you must be Seamus.
“Seamus, we met before. Do you still remember me?”
Seamus immediately answered sweetly, “How could I forget you, Teagan? You’re beautiful and have incredible martial talent. I heard you’ve already reached the fourth stage of the Innate Realm.”
Teagan broke into a bright smile, and her favorable impression of Seamus improved even further.
See? Raised by the same parents, Seamus is talented, ambitious, and knows exactly how to talk to people.
He’s so much better than Skyler.
Alice asked curiously, “Teagan, what brings you here?”
Teagan’s smile faded as she glanced unhappily toward Skyler in the distance. “My dad asked me to bring Skyler to school.”
Only then did Alice notice Skyler, and her face immediately brightened.
“Hmph!” Before she could say anything, Connor let out a cold snort, his face darkening.
She just said Dominic asked her to bring Skyler to school?
Could the student Dominic recommended to Raymond two days ago actually be Skyler?
With that thought, Connor glanced at Skyler disdainfully and said with a forced smile, “Teagan, your dad certainly thinks highly of Skyler.”
Teagan was equally puzzled. How could her father think so highly of a loser?
“You probably don’t know this,” Connor continued. “Two days ago, your dad called Mr. Hunt and said he was about to send him the future national martial SAT top scorer.”
“What?” Teagan stood frozen.
The next second, she blurted out, “Has my dad gone crazy?”
The national martial SAT top scorer? Does Dad even understand what that means?
Over the past several hundred years, Southmere had never produced a single national martial SAT top scorer.
No matter how gifted someone was, they were nothing compared to the heirs of those centuries-old great families, Saint Realm lineages, or even the imperial family in Imperia.
Yet her father actually believed Skyler could compete for the national title? What a ridiculous joke.
Not only Teagan, but even Alice looked surprised.
She hadn’t interacted with Dominic very much, but Rosie had mentioned him often enough. He didn’t seem like the kind of person who would say something so outrageous.
As for Seamus, he simply looked at Skyler more disdainfully.
Connor sneered. “Riverspire High happens to hold a mock exam today. I’d like to see what kind of score this so-called genius, who’s supposedly capable of topping the national martial SAT, can actually pull off.
With that, Connor led Seamus straight into the school.
Teagan had originally been about to leave. But now that there was such an entertaining show to watch, she immediately followed them inside.
She wanted to see Seamus’s results and also witness the enormous gap between Seamus and Skyler.
Only Alice remained behind. Looking at Skyler, she hesitated before speaking, “Skye, just stay at Rosie’s house for a few days first. Your dad is still angry right now. Once he’s calmed down in a few days—”
Before she could finish, Skyler interrupted her, “Mrs. Yount, please keep your distance. I’m not familiar with the Younts, and I certainly don’t have a father.”
With that, he strode into the school without looking back.
Alice opened her mouth, but no words came out. She had never imagined that the relationship between them could deteriorate to this point.
In the end, she could only sigh before following everyone else into the school.
Soon, they arrived at the martial arts arena.
Every senior student was already gathered there, having clearly received advance notice about today’s mock exam.
