In his eyes, my pain and my dead child were nothing but badly timed theatrics.
Sloane chose her moment perfectly, reaching for the designer handbag on the bedside table. The movement was so graceful she could have been on her way to host a charity dinner at the Pack House.
“Maybe I shouldn’t be here. Grant, I’ll go first and let you all talk.” She looked at me, her apology measured to perfection. “Nora, I’m sorry. I hope you and Mia can rebuild a healthy relationship.”
She turned away as if making a noble sacrifice for family
peace.
“You should never have been here in the first place.”

He dragged me to one side and lowered his voice to a venomous whisper.
