Since casualties were unavoidable, Skyler and Gordon had to draw away more beasts. That would reduce the pressure on the cliffside defenses and minimize their losses. 

Gordon understood Skyler’s intention. He swung his palms and engaged the mantis beast 

Golden dragons swirled around the creature, trapping it within Gordon’s palm technique. No matter how violently it charged, it couldn’t break free. 

The humiliating game enraged the mantis beast. It roared and ordered the horde behind it to attack Gordon. 

Seeing this, Skyler secretly sighed in relief. He leveled his spear and charged straight into the beast tide. “Focus on the mantis beast, Gordon. Leave the rest to me.” 

Silver lightning crackled wildly around the Worldbane Dragon Spear. Every sweep of its tip pierced another hideous beast through the heart or throat. 

Skyler single-handedly halted the surging beast tide. Not one beast managed to break past him. 

On the cliff, Martin stared open-mouthed at the battle in Horseshoe Valley. “How is this possible? A group of students with no battlefield experience actually stopped the beast tide.” 

Victor glared at Skyler as he fought through the horde. “You think they can stop the beast tide? Keep watching. The beasts will counterattack within ten minutes, and every one of those students will die.” 

As Victor predicted, the horde soon recovered from the students’ initial surprise attack. 

The beasts realized that although ambushers occupied both cliffs, their numbers were limited. They quickly launched a counterattack and surged toward the cliffs like an incoming tide. 

The pressure on the students increased instantly. Seeing this, Skyler grew increasingly anxious. 

“We can’t delay any longer,” Skyler called out. “Kill the mantis beast, Gordon. Then we’ll charge into the horde and relieve the pressure on the others.” 

“Understood.” Gordon roared as his formerly steady Dragon Shadow Palm suddenly turned ferocious. 

The mantis beast, which had barely resisted him moments earlier, felt overwhelming force crash down upon it. 

Its bladed forelegs shattered with a sharp crack. Blood sprayed from its body as if it had been struck by a meteor, killing it instantly. 

Gordon caught his breath, his face slightly palé.

The mantis beast was a sixth-tier demonic beast with Ascension Realm power. If Skyler hadn’t destroyed 

e of its eyes carlier, Gordon couldn’t have killed it so easily. 

Gordon silently acknowledged how much Skyler had carried them through this brutal battle. Then he leaped into the beast tide and fought alongside him. 

Despite their courage and the students’ fierce resistance, they couldn’t overcome the vast difference in numbers. 

The beasts soon broke through the defensive line atop the cliffs. A flood of demonic beasts poured through the opening and savagely attacked the students. 

Tonnie, who was at the third stage of the Archmaster Realm, was swallowed by the horde. Within moments, the bloodthirsty beasts tore him apart and stained the ground red. 

“Tonnie!” his classmates cried as they charged desperately toward the beasts, trying to recover his body. 

But before the seemingly endless tide, they were like drifting leaves in a raging sea. One crashing wave was enough to make them disappear. 

“Damn it!” Gordon’s eyes turned bloodshot as he struck repeatedly, crushing the beasts before him into pulp. 

Several beasts emerged from his blind spot and slashed their claws across his back. Gordon wasn’t a body cultivator and couldn’t ignore their attacks as Skyler did. Hot blood sprayed into the air. 

“Watch out!” Skyler warned as he caught Gordon and swept his other arm in a wide arc, blasting the attacking beasts away. 

Skyler stomped the ground and raised a wall of ice around them. “Are you all right?” 

“I’m fine.” Gordon gritted his teeth, removed his jacket, and roughly bound the wound on his back. “Let’s keep fighting. We can’t let these beasts reach the cliffs.” 

“All right.” Skyler released his arm, gripped the Worldbane Dragon Spear with both hands, and shattered the ice wall. 

Under cover of the flying ice, the two charged out and rejoined the battle. 

From the cliff, Victor and Martin watched Skyler struggle within the beast tide and laughed with delight. 

“Skyler won’t last much longer,” Martin remarked, clapping his hands. “Company Commander Boyd, once he dies, we can clean up the battlefield.” 

Victor nodded. “Of course. We can’t let the military merits he earned go to waste. Soldiers, prepare for battle.” 

Victor’s command echoed through the empty night, but no one responded. 

After a moment of confusion, he turned around. The forest behind him was completely empty.
