Chapter 243 The Veterans Join the Battle

Chapter 243 The Veterans Join the Battle

“Teams One through Four, reinforce the cliffs and seal the breach,” a commanding voice ordered Team Five, follow me and extract the men below.”

Skyler looked up and saw an elite unit of fifty soldiers descending from the sky. They swiftly landed at their assigned positions.

Their cultivation was similar to the students’, but they possessed far more combat experience.

The soldiers immediately identified the weakest points in the cliffside defenses and sealed the openings. Their combined attacks quickly restored the shattered defensive line.

“Give me control of the formation arrays,” a stubbled soldier ordered as he rushed toward a formation- master student.

The student instinctively channeled his spiritual energy into the soldier.

The soldier raised an eyebrow. “Excellent formation arrays. You deserve to be called Skyward Martial Academy’s finest, but your timing is wrong. Watch and learn.”

He activated his cultivation and guided the formation arrays throughout the valley. One formation after another lit up, making the demonic beasts howl in agony.

The formation-master student’s eyes shone as if an entirely new world had opened before him.

He had previously activated every formation simultaneously. The display looked impressive, but it failed to unleash their full destructive power.

By activating them in sequence, the veteran allowed the beasts to enter each killing formation themselves. This conserved energy while multiplying the arrays’ destructive power.

At the center of the horde, a close-cropped soldier led nine men toward Skyler and Gordon. They quickly formed a protective formation around them.

“You two have done enough,” the soldier said. “We’ll fight our way out together.”

Surrounded by their solid formation, Skyler felt much more secure.

Veterans truly were indispensable on a battlefield. They knew what to do without being told, and their seamless coordination greatly enhanced their combat effectiveness.

But with these veterans supporting them, Skyler saw no reason to retreat.

His eyes hardened as unquestionable authority radiated from him. “Sergeant, follow my command. Form

a three-by-three formation and provide alternating cover as we break toward eight o’clock.”

The soldier trembled. His instincts told him that the man before him wasn’t a student from Skyward Martial Academy, but a commander whose authority surpassed that of any officer he had served.

His body reacted before his mind could. He immediately reorganized the formation according to Skyler’s

command and fought toward eight o’clock.

Before long, they entered the area covered by the students’ formation arrays.

“Everyone, 15 steps to the right,” Skyler commanded. “Gather your strength and attack on my signal.”

The unit moved quickly. The moment they reached their positions, brilliant white light erupted where they had previously stood.

The pursuing beasts were swallowed by the light and screamed in agony.

“Attack!” Skyler ordered, unleashing a savage crimson arc from the Worldbane Dragon Spear.

The strike killed nearly half the beasts injured by the light. The soldiers’ attacks followed immediately and eliminated the rest.

The close-cropped soldier stared in disbelief. Skyler had guided their unit through the dense formation arrays and coordinated with every activation to inflict maximum damage.

His command of the complex battlefield far surpassed the soldier’s own.

Under Skyler’s leadership, the unit moved effortlessly through the formation arrays.

Skyler had no contact with the formation masters atop the cliffs, yet he always seemed to know which array would activate next. He repeatedly lured the beasts directly into them.

After the arrays weakened the beasts, his unit delivered the final blow.

They repeated the tactic several times, rapidly reducing the number of beasts in the valley. The pressure on the cliffside defenses eased significantly.

The soldier was exhilarated. He had never fought such a satisfying battle since joining the army. “Take us through another round, Skyler.”

Skyler rolled his eyes and smacked the back of his head as though disciplining a reckless recruit.

“Another round, my ass. The beasts are terrified and will flee soon. Only three formation masters are guarding the entrance. If we don’t reinforce them, they’ll be killed.”

The soldier scratched his head and smiled sheepishly. “You’re right. Everyone, tighten the formation and fight toward the valley entrance.”

At his command, the formation contracted. The ten elite soldiers surged toward the entrance like an

arrow.

Toby and the other two formation masters guarding the entrance were on the verge of coughing up blood.

“Fuck, have these beasts gone insane?” Toby cursed. “They keep ramming the barrier. Gordon, Skyler, how much longer will you take? I can’t hold it.”

Another formation master’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Toby, look over there.”

Toby raised his head and saw a dazzling light advancing through the dark mass of beasts. The students

ho had defended the cliffs followed close behind under the stubbled soldier’s command.

Despite their limited numbers, their morale was tremendous. They charged like a mighty army crushing the beast tide, which had already lost its will to fight.

“It’s Gordon and Skyler!” Toby cried. “Hold on a little longer. Even if we exhaust our cultivation, we must defend the entrance until they eliminate the beasts.”
