Chapter 244 Turning the Tide

Watching Toby deliver his impassioned speech, Skyler couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

Toby’s blood was running a little too hot. His determination to defend the entrance to the death was admirable, but couldn’t he turn around and check what was happening?

“You idiot, Toby,” Gordon cursed bluntly. “Drop the barrier and retreat.”

Before Toby could react, a large hand clamped onto his shoulder and hurled him backward.

“You’ve worked hard, young man,” the newcomer said. “Leave the rest to us.”

When Toby recognized him, he cried out in delight. “You’re Chief Bell!”

Kaie Bell was the chief of Fieldhaven Outpost and a cultivator at the peak of the Ascensión Realm. He was also the one who had sent the distress call Skyler’s group received earlier.

After Skyler drew away the attacking beast tide, the pressure on Fieldhaven Outpost dropped dramatically. Kaie eliminated the remaining beasts and immediately organized a counterattack.

However, Skyler hadn’t contacted Kaie beforehand. Kaie didn’t know the beasts had been lured into Horseshoe Valley, which delayed his arrival.

Kaie swept his hand forward, releasing the power of a peak Ascension Realm expert. The beasts charging toward the entrance seemed to crash into a steel wall. Bloodied and battered, they tumbled backward.

The Fieldhaven Outpost garrison poured into the valley behind him and cut through the beast tide like a

razor.

They surrounded the horde with Skyler’s forces and repeatedly divided its ranks, breaking the beast tide into scattered groups.

Kaie leaped into the air and surveyed the battlefield with an eagle’s gaze, constantly directing his soldiers’

attacks.

Skyler soon joined him, accompanied by the close-cropped soldier. “Chief Bell, leave the rest of the battle to me.”

Kaie returned the greeting, but hesitation appeared on his face.

“This roving beast pack has terrorized Northville for a long time,” Kaie explained tactfully. “It’s been a constant threat to us. If we don’t eliminate every beast here, they may cause endless trouble later.”

His meaning was clear. He feared Skyler couldn’t control a battle of this scale and might allow some beasts

to escape.

The close-cropped soldier smiled. “Don’t worry, Chief Bell. Skyler wants command because he intends to eliminate every last beast.”

Skyler didn’t explain. Instead, he channeled infernal energy into his voice and issued a booming

command.

“Three hundred beasts at eleven o’clock. Gordon, take a team and surround them.”

“Seven hundred at two o’clock. Toby, raise a barrier and drive them back.”

One clear, concise order followed another. Even those working with Skyler for the first time could carry them out smoothly.

Kaie soon understood why the close-cropped soldier trusted Skyler.

Skyler seemed to view the battlefield from above. He understood every detail, and no movement escaped his notice.

Under his command, both forces coordinated seamlessly to surround and intercept the beasts.

The chaotic horde seemed trapped beneath an inescapable net. No matter which direction the beasts fled, a squad drove them back.

The units coordinated perfectly and soon slaughtered every beast that escaped the valley.

When the final demonic beast fell, Kaie was utterly convinced.

“Young man, I’ve never seen anyone with your battlefield instincts or command ability,” Kaie said. “If you’re interested, join the northern warzone command after graduation. I’ll do everything possible to ensure your success.”

Skyler laughed, thanked him politely, and tactfully declined the offer.

After having his military merits stolen, Skyler understood that even the greatest achievements in the army could be erased by a single word from a powerful family.

He didn’t want to remain a pawn controlled by others. Skyler wanted overwhelming strength. Then he would lead Chanaea in eliminating the threat of demonic beasts and bring its people lasting peace.

Kaie smiled helplessly and didn’t press the matter.

Corpses covered Horseshoe Valley. They had won a spectacular victory, and everyone involved would receive commendations once the battle was reported.

As they looked forward to their rewards, an angry voice shattered the celebratory mood.

“You bastards, are you staging a mutiny?”

Victor and Martin raced over and landed among the crowd. When Victor saw Skyler standing there alive. rage surged through him.

Without warning, he slapped the close-cropped soldier across the face. “You’re one of my soldiers. Who gave you permission to act without orders?”

The soldier staggered. His instinct to obey his superior made him step back and lower his head without

speaking.

Victor was furious. His plan had been perfect. Skyler had been surrounded, and Calone’s death was moments away from being avenged.

But the soldier’s unauthorized intervention had ruined everything. Victor wanted to beat him to death.

When the soldier remained silent, Victor raised his hand to strike him again.

“Stop!” Skyler commanded as the Worldbane Dragon Spear swept forward, its tip aimed directly at Victor’s heart.

Victor was stunned. He’d never imagined Skyler would attack him in public. He hurriedly retreated and narrowly avoided the spear.

“You little bastard, are you starting a mutiny?” Victor pointed furiously at Skyler. “We’re at war. You attacked a company commander in public. I can have you court-martialed.”
